The plug itself will separate and the center of it will shoot out at high velocity. Quite a bit more than the 85 grains of a .22 caliber bullet. I did attend the Ford Motor Company's training on the 7.3 diesel at the training center in Mt. Laurel, NJ. They have documented incidents of glow plugs separating and travelling at velocities exceeding 1500 feet per second. Where I come from, that CAN kill somebody standing in the line of fire. This is NOT a theory that I would care to test. And, frankly, I don't care if you believe it or not. Let it suffice to say that it is dangerous to use starting fluid on an indirect injected diesel.
I have also noted that you have challenged me on other statements in the past. Then I see you asking questions that an experienced technician would never have to ask. So, who are you?? And what are your credentials??
