The pin is not supposed to spin. If it does the whole pin is loose. The only way to tighten them is to gain access to that nut by taking the axle housing off. That's the reason I've been thinking of doing this. To provide a way to tighten that nut if it loosens again after years of use, without disassembling the tractor again.
I will definitely weld the tab on the nut in a vise so no danger of annealing the pin or damaging the casting and maybe get new pins if the old ones are really worn..
I posted this basically to see if anyone else has tried it?--- agrees it should work?---or, could present a good reason that it wouldn't work?
