: : I just got a Ford 640. I had to jump it off and the amp shows discharge, and the higher the r.p.m. the farther down it goes. It is a 6 volt pos ground also I think. any ideas??? Thanks : Sounds like either the battery or the ammeter is hooked up backwards. I have seen this pretty regularly and my own Ford 2000 was hooked up as 6V negative ground. Well there is no such a thing. If you have 6V, then it is positive ground, but sometimes uninformed folks who never even heard of positive ground will hook up the battery as negative ground because it's all they know. I would trace all the wiring related to the battery and charging system and see if you don't find something backwards. You have a backward hookup there somewhere. I just did the same thing on my Deere: higher revs produced higher discharge, with no discharge at all at idle. Positibe ground was my undoing! Just retrace wiring. You could try reversing connections on ammeter first.
