Just a thanks for all the kind words...and the few not so kind words...about yesterdays tragedy. As I mentioned in one of my threads to that post, I am the responsible person for the cat being in the road and cannot blame the driver for killing the cat. The accident site is not visible from the house and I wish they had moved the cat off road and left some kind of message on the phone...but even then I understand the worry that some type of abuse will result. So maybe just move it out of the road. My younger daughter took the body to work with her and the vet verified no visible injury but likely a head wound and some internal organ damage. My older daughter is getting past it. Life has it's consolations and, as it happens, a kitten had come in to the clinic a couple months back with severe head injuries. One of the vets volunteered to remove an eye that was protruding and I told my kid she could handle the nursing duties up in her room. I thought it might help her with the stress of those first months of vet-med school...and it has. Not a replacement, been up there now for two months. Cute little thing...missing one eye and mostly blind in the other. Otherwise normal. Anyhow....
To those who scolded me, well...I cannot disagree. The road is not a highway. It is 300' from the house. There are two houses on the far side but no attractive nuisance to draw a cat. Behind our house is a woodlot and the cats tend to head in that direction. Our yard is fully fenced, means nothing to a cat. This was just bad luck and an accident. None the less, no matter what the thoughts of the driver, the cat was outside and in the road for some unknown reason. Sometimes stuff just happens and I appreciate everyone's comments. Thanks!
