There is a 3rd number behind those two numbers that will tell you the model of the tractor... go back and look for it. a model number for a 4000 would start with a "4" on earlier and a "D" on later models. The whole number will tell the exact model, sub model, transmission, pto and engine type of the tractor. For instance in the 4000 models, there are an all purpose model, a row crop model, orchard ( vineyard or narrow) model, a special utility (SU or lcg) model, industrial model and utility models.. earlier versions also included an offset. All of these were 4000 models, but sub models of that series.
if the model starts with a 3 or c, its a 3000,, if a 2 or a b, its a 2000....
