When I was still in the welding business I dropped the welder gun and poked my thumb with the wire. You can't even see the mark in the pic, but it was right below the nail. Went in to the bone. Next day my thumb was swelled up so I went to the doc. They gave me iv antibiotics for the day then sent me home with antibiotic pills. Next day my thumb, first two fingers and half my arm to the elbo were swollen terribly. So back to the doc. Turned out I had a staph infection that got into my bones. The scar is from when the skin split on my thumb from swelling so far. They did surgery on it after to fix it some. I was in the hospital for 7 days listed as unresponsive. I was awake sometimes but had no idea what was going on. The doctors said that the answer to every question they asked was cows, they said I found that incredibly funny. Lol. They kicked me out as soon as I was awake because I didn't have insurance, but my wife had to keep giving me IV antibiotics for 3 more weeks. Anyway, they figure the problem came from the wire being hot and cauterizing the wound so it stayed open allowing contamination to get in and into my bones.
