A few weeks ago I mentioned that one wheel motor on my Deines ZTR was wearing out. I happened to have another mower identical to this one and could steal the hydro I needed. It had slipped on that mower the last time I used it but that engine ran very hot and the fluid cooked.
I pulled the spare and drained the fluid. It was the color of Pepto Bismol which is a long way from the type F auto trans fluid that is supposed to be in there. I drained it good and replaced the fluid with 15-40 oil and a little Lucas oil treatment to condition the seals which were a little damp.
Only time will tell how it does. I didn't have anything to lose, but from the little I drove it when I was gone it is vastly improved. The first time I spend hours on it mowing I will know.
