: Can anyone who has owned or operated 2 cylinder models and the new generation models (after 1960) give me a perspective on the merits of each. Some claim that the 2 cylinder models were just made better, more reliable, etc. I ask becuase I don't have much experience on either and own a Model 1010 but love the looks of the Model 50 and 420 series. Thanks for your input. Years ago we had an A and a 1010 Special . The A would out pull the 1010 any day . However , the 1010 had a 3 point hitch and was suited for our everyday needs better . The A was used only for "pull" type implements .I will have to say that the A was more durable and never failed to crank . I loved the A , but a modern tractor is more usefull . Now , a 40 or 50 is a little different story . My inlaws have a 40 and it is equal or better than my 2N . It has three point hitch so it is usable with most implements and has plenty of power .I have been trying to buy it for quite some time from them .Those old 2 cyl. motors just dig and dig under load . One last observation , my cousin owned our local JD dealership until recently .Even with access to the latest tractors , he has always prefered to use 50s for nearly all his work . Ford Man
