Duane, If you would judge John Deere on based on the 1010 or 2010 models compared to the 2 cylinder John Deeres you may not consider much improvement. The 1010 and 2010 are John Deere's mistake. If you will consider the 1020, 1520, 2020 and up, there is a vast improvement. I have owned a 1020 and 2010. The 1020 is a much better tractor than the 2010 although the 2010 is 4 cylinder and 47 HP whereas the 1020 is 3 cylinder and 39 HP. The 3 cylinder is a naturally balanced engine and has much better low RPM torque than the 4 cyl 2010. The 1020 model and up have 2000 PSI closed center hydraulics, wet brakes, planetary gearing, full time power steering even when using the hydraulics. The newer tractors were designed for 3 point implements rather than as add-ons as on the older tractors. I wouldn't consider a 2 cylinder except for taking to tractor shows, antique tractor pulling, or for nostalgic reasons. The new generation tractors are much more user friendly and have greater utility, except for the 1010 and 2010. Sorry to hit on your 1010, but John Deere blew it on the 1010 and 2010. Ken McWilliams Dayton, Ohio ******************************************************* : Can anyone who has owned or operated 2 cylinder models and the new generation models (after 1960) give me a perspective on the merits of each. Some claim that the 2 cylinder models were just made better, more reliable, etc. I ask becuase I don't have much experience on either and own a Model 1010 but love the looks of the Model 50 and 420 series. Thanks for your input.
