I have a riding mower with that engine. Funniest thing happened to me with it. Same scenario, was mowing, had to get off to move something out of the way. It died, not to run again that day. I did the usual things, it's about ten years old or so. Finally thought it was the fuel pump. I went to the parts place here in Lubbock where a very VERY knowledgeable lady owns the place. She told me she would sell me a pump, and whatever else I thought would fix it, then she would tell me what's wrong and that fix wouldn't cost anything. Not wanting to be taken for a fool, I asked if we could do this her way first.
There is a small solenoid on the bottom of the carb/fuel bowl with a molex type plug and two wires going to it. She says unplug it, clean it out (get all the grass and dirt out of it), plug it back in and it will run just fine. I did, and it did. It's a fuel valve that shuts off with the ignition, common to all of the 18.5hp Briggs engines and a common issue.

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
