I have '69 Hydro with a 48", 3 blade deck. I always keep the deck lift lever in the "float" poition. What is the proper way to adjust the height of the mower deck??.....Is it with the deck wheels? I have had my deck wheels mounted in one of the lower holes (I believe there are 5 positions) on the mounting bracket. This has caused some undue stress, from the weight of the deck, where the the perpendicular wheel bracket is welded to the deck....it cracked the deck. (maybe my deck is just thin from 30 years of rusting....I bought it used, I stopped the rusting now, though.) Also, the plastic wheel centers are starting to break.... I believe they are getting pinched when backing up and turning at the same time (I can solve this problem by lifting the deck before backing up). This past time I tried it with the deck wheels all the way up, so that the deck is riding on the skid bars on the ends of the deck. The wheels were not carring the weight of the deck, but the tractor seemed to be working harder because of the deck "skidding" instead of rolling. Also, it was cutting lower and did more "hedge" trimming. I do have a "relativley flat" lawn, just a few dips and bumps, here and there. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Brian.
