: What are the potential problems of towing a pickup on a dolly (That is rear wheels rolling in neutral)? : Appreciate that help. : Jim Jim, Some straight shift pickups can be towed with the rear wheels on the ground and some cannot. Consult your owners manual or manufacturer. If it is a four wheel drive with a manual transfer case, most can be towed with the transfer case in nutural. Again, consult your owners manual or manufacturer to be sure. Since you will have the rear wheels on the ground anyhowhow, you don't need a dolly. Use a towbar. It is a whole lot easier than fooling with the dolly and will pull even better. Those dollys are made to pull front wheel drive vehicles to keep the drive wheels from turning. Consult "Motor Home" magazine's annual dingy towing guide and it tells most new vehicles and what drive train options in each vehicle that can be towed with the drive wheels on the ground. Harold H
