WE had 2 guys here on opening day who got caught. Charges included "interfering with a law enforcement officer, hunting without a license, illegal position of game animals and criminal trespass". The land owner who was not hunting but wearing orange working in his yard heard shots and had bullets passing not far from him. Because his land is posted he called the game hotline. Conservation officer (here in MN also a sworn police officer) responded and found 2 guys, no licenses, with 3 deer in possession while trespassing. The carp cop had called for backup and a state patrol officer was also there. One of the guys got belligerent with the officers. In MN trespassing while committing another crime automatically makes it criminal trespass. Their pickup and guns were confiscated and it will be up to the judge if they get them back. There will at a minimum be heavy fines and they may actually spend some time behind bars. Last year the same carp cop responded to a report of a trespasser and while on the side of the road talking to the land owner had a guy stop on the road and shoot a deer from their truck right in front of the officer and land owner. That's pretty bold.
As far as the deer head goes? The guy could have found a dead deer and wanted the rack. Who knows? I saw a guy waste his tag on a half rotted deer he found because he wanted the rack. Many states have "wonton waste laws" that makes it illegal to waste the meat just for a trophy.
I really hate people like that as they do give hunters a bad name.
