Looks like you get into the same mess I do, lol. Great looking stack of wood. Let me share a few pics of my wood pile for this year.
I have a friend who does construction and he cleared off a lot with pin oak (the big stuff in the pics), elm and a little other various stuff. He gave it all to me. I have a 20" bar and had to cut down each side then roll the log to finish each cut. Rented a 30-ton splitter and had a few pieces that had to be repositioned a few times to find a soft spot! I ruined my chain on the last cut. Somehow a cinder block got in the elm tree and it grew into the very center of the log. I had to hit it right dead center of course.
The boys are my niece's standing next to a slab. Her husband helped split one day for about 10 hours. He didn't know what he was getting into. The slabs were so heavy, it took two grown men and a long bar to get them under the splitter. He got his share off the wood pile for his house for helping me. We counted 73 sticks split off one of the large slabs. I have 9 cord (8x24x6) stacked at the house now. Might need to split some of the pieces again, they grew bigger when I started to load them on the truck!
We have natural gas but also love our fireplace to help heat. This should last two seasons here in Missouri.
