You'll probably like what you have, both the saw and the dealer, we have both right here in town, and they both service what they sell, especially the Husqvarna dealer, having been a small engine and saw shop since the late 40's. A friend has a 455 rancher with a Lowes sticker on it, been a good saw for his limited used, much of it for the annual clean up and clearing of the paths around here, as he's got a deer stand here etc.

We had a fun one last week with it, he needed to change the chain, and left the chain brake on when removing the cover, which I sort of helped him with, thinking this is difficult and it should not be. Well I was able to free the band from the drum and it comes off, but it is too tight to go back on. Looked it over and it dawns on me, ok... don't repeat this, taking the side cover off with the chain brake ON ! LOL ! I like working on saws actually, so its no big deal, but what was interesting was getting the band expanded again, given the spring that is in there. Theres a trick to most of these things and I knew what needed to be done, but could not get the right leverage to cam over that mechanism, and expand the band so it slides over the drum. One look on a you tube video, and seeing where a person used a stout needle nose plier to get enough leverage, then retain the spring.... done deal. One thing that is great about you tube, the sharing of information like this.

Never ends, go to put the new chain on, and while comparing the dull one to the new one, just as I had them hanging in my hand, I spot a serious problem on the new chain. One cutter is not machined/sharpened! It was on the back of the cutter, so the machine missed its cue here and sharpened the wrong end of it. It would have chattered like heck no doubt. I put the bar clamp file guide on and dress that cutter so its right, it tests out perfect. Lots of little things with these to look after.

Whats almost comical or actually fun to read here, (well besides the this brand vs that brand)what people have, what they swear by, how they do this or that etc. etc. Whenever a saw post comes up, you'll always get that, something about wood, lumber/"sawyering" if there is such a word, making firewood, and the tools used with the associated stories, methodology and so on. Such a wide array of means and methods is the interesting part for me.

You either had an ignition, fuel or air breather problem, that is if the engine was sound, making good compression. Your post and the question kind of gets skipped over, and you get the previous, and I just added to it with the above LOL ! I think you did the right thing, it was new and they took it back given it would not run. Something like that, its really on them instead of you having to fool with it.

PS, you can also source Stihl parts and things from Ebay, I have had good luck there and of course the local dealer, whom I went to for a main housing for my saw when I did a bit of a refurbish on it about a year ago. Typically you would have to go to a dealer and order what you need if not in their stock, usually takes a week here if they don't have it.
