My dad bought a 269 brand new. At the time, the salesman told dad that if he bought the baler, he'd get a free TV set. That part was forgotten, but about two months later the salesman was at our door with a small GE tube TV set, probably about a 13" model. My brother and I put that TV out in the tool shed and would have the TV on when we were stuck there in the shed on Saturday mornings during the winter when it was cold. Anyway, back to the baler. I grew up on a dairy farm and we probably put several hundred thousand bales through that machine, most of those bales were made with a John Deere G. My dad was a firm believer in working us kids at a very early age, and for a first or second grader, I was pretty good at snapping the clutch back, throwing the tractor in neutral and then engaging the clutch so that the baler would clean out. We never had any real problems with it other than maintenance and wear items. My mom still has it, sitting in the weeds. It just isn't used any more because everything went to big bales.

You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o
