: I have a MF 85 tractor. Twice now I've had problems with pto shaft snap ring which holds shaft and bearing in place has come completly out of housing.Wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem . If so is there a better solution than the manfactures orignal design I'm not certain if the 85 is of the same PTO design as a later MF model, but if the snap ring is one that holds the bearing in place on the shaft, it probably is. Check with a MF shop first, but I believe the repair is to have the inside of the shaft cut so it sits slightly below the front face of the tapered bearing. Then the machine shop will machine a plate and tap a bolt hole into the shaft. The bolt and plate can take much more normal stress than the snap ring. The units will stay tight with the heavy plate and bolt. I believe on I had done years back, had a 1/2" bolt. Call a MF shop.
