I have dabbled with a thousand squares or so this year but had not baled any rounds. I mowed down the hilltop wrap around and a couple of other fields today. This section has one of the highest points in the county, so I thought I would take a few pictures so you could see not ALL of Kansas is flat and treeless like poor Allen in Nebraska! I grew up in the western half and it is much like that, though. I farm this section and around half of the section to the west where the home place is. Much of the brome for cattle comes from these waterways. I love mowing this field in the morning. The views are spectacular.
History lesson: when they burned Lawrence in an effort to bring slavery to Kansas they caught Quantrill's Raiders (the arsonists) a mile south of my house. The law stopped right about where my tractor is and they saw their campfires to the southwest. Another mile south of that is the oldest hotel in the county built with stone from the fields (private home now). Lincoln stayed there while campaigning for president.
