: I have the same problem with my 3000 ford trans and the pto stays in gear all the time. Also the trans disconnect located on the differential will not disenagage which makes it impossible to tow the tractor or load it. My trans will pull in any gear for a short while but if you change from the gear you are running in to another aand then back, the tracor will not move. Any ideas? : : Bob, : : Thank you for replying to my question. : : The PTO runs at the normal rpm, but it also runs when the pto lever is in the dis-enguaged position. The pto runs all the time, but slowly, even with a mower attached, but when you pull the pto level to put it in gear, it picks up speed and runs correctly. The other hydrolics works good also, such as the 3 point hitch. : : Due to the pto running all the time, could this be an indicator of the problem of the trans not working? : : Thank you for your time, : : Bob B. : Bob, : My '59 Ford 801 also has a selecto-speed transmission. My transmission was restored by the preveous owner and works find. My PTO has symtoms similar to yours which I consider a safety concern but not a problem. By the way, there is a lot of technical information on the Selecto-Speed transmission in the original Ford service manual for sale on this web site. Good luck with your diagnosis.
