: I just bought a Farmall Super A which is in pretty good condition except for the steering box which is very sloppy. I'm wondering what I'll get into when I tackle the repair of it. JOHN, When you say sloppy, do you mean lots of wheel motion or side-to-side motion at between the shaft and the housing? There are only a few things that can be changed in the system to tighten it up: 1) Bushing on the back of the casting is worn out causing the worm gear to separate from the worm wheel. 2) Gears are worn because of lack of lubrication. This unit is suppose to run in oil, but most have leaks and run dry. 3) Nut on the front of the shaft is loose and needs tightening. To do this remove the plug in the front and the nut will be right there. 4) Front roller bearing is worn out again causing gear separation. Items 1 & 2 require disassembly. Not a particularly tough thing to do after you figure out how to support the radiator. Items 3 & 4 can be done without major disassembly from the front. If you want an exploded view picture of the parts invovled, e-mail me and I'll sent it to you electronically. Good Luck Dick D.
