: : I have been told I need to put water in the tires
: : of my MF 135. I was told this would help with
: : traction and I can see how it would.
: : This is my question...wont it freeze? and if it
: : does will the ice hurt the tubes in my tires?
: : Please help!!

: No, you dont want to put straight water in tires
: if you live ina climate that gets below freezing.
: The traditional liquid balast is a solution of water
: and calcium cloride- between 3.5-5lbs per gal of water. Check with your local tractor tire retailer
: about having this installed. The one drawback
: to clacium is that it is very corrosive and it will rust your rims out. Always keep an eye out for
: leaks and park the tractor with the valve stems
: up when parked for a long period. it is also a good idea to replace the valve housings regularly. An alternative to calcium would be
: regular antifreeze or windsheild washer solvent.
: Antifreeze gives you more weight and is good for
: your tires and rims but can get expensive. I just bought 36 gallons of washer solvent at a warehouse club for $ .83/gallon. It is not as heavy and may not be as good for the tires but
: it is a lot cheaper.

I found a tip in a book called "Successful Small Scale Farming" that you can neutralize the corrosiveness of the chloride by adding lime to the mixture, I don't have the book in front of me for the correct amount.
Anyone ever try RV Anti-freeze ??? It's good to
-100 degrees.

The saga starts with the following message: Hey guys I have a decision to make. I know what you all will probably suggest and it will probably agree with me way down inside, but here it is. I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction, ... [Read Article]
