In 20 years+ of trucking, I can only say that there are some that can really make your day miserable... e.g. travelling through Connecticut. North on I-91. Scale was open. BOTH sides of scale had rookie trainees lined up. Held me up long enough to cause me to miss my backhaul and have to lay over in East Hartford. Finally a grouchy old sergeant came out, looked over the truck, and handed me my paperwork and said "have a nice day." e.g.2 Got stopped at the Conowingo Dam Park on US1 in Maryland. DOT cop said that my steering was too loose and put me out of service. Wrote me a MAJOR violation that would have gotten me a 1-year suspension of my commercial driving privileges - related to the steering. Upon examination of the truck by a third party certified inspection garage, it was determined that my steering was indeed within legal standards, and that the DOT cop was incorrect in his actions. Citation was dismissed. Never set a wheel on that road again. e.g.3 scale on I-80 in Ohio was checking brake adjustments with a 9/16 wrench. I got such a hard time on that scale that I NEVER EVER crossed an Ohio scale again. Found ways to go around them. e.g.4 I-95 northbound at Dumfries, VA. DOT cop found some (bogus) bolt loose on the frame of the tractor. Put a big orange "out of service" sticker on my windshield. Blackmailed me into paying the local service truck (just happened to be there) to tighten the bolt and removing the sticker. Service truck just "happened" to be owned by the cop's BIL.
On the good side, heading west on I-78 around Summit, NJ. Ice storm coming in from the west. Trying to outrun it, I was a bit over the speed limit. Just over the crest of a knoll sits a state cop with a radar. I saw him, and just pulled over and stopped. He asked me why I was speeding. I told him about the incoming storm. He wrote me a $42 parking ticked and told me to keep it under 80 and I would not be bothered under the circumstances.
