I would think that you would see pulsing on one side and steady 12 volts on the other. The rising/falling voltage is what triggers the spark. Points will accomplish this by conducting to saturate the coil, and then open to cause the discharge that initiates a spark. The electronic module should accomplish the same thing by first saturating the coil, and then breaking the circuit to cause the discharge that initiates the spark. I would expect that you should see the 12 volts on BOTH sides of the coil. I might suspect that the primary winding in the coil may be open (burned out maybe?).
