Sad News - 4H project

Posted by JRSutton on July 31, 2014 at 08:41:49 from (71.174.108.252):

I've posted here about the project the 4H kids have been working on, the 43 John Deere B.

The man who donated the tractor to our club was battling liver cancer, and I had really hoped to get it done in time for him to see it restored.

Unfortunately, I just got word that he has passed away. He was 73.

We knew that was coming sooner or later, but we hoped for later. So, pretty sad news.

We were really scrambling to raise enough money to get it done more quickly than I could fund on my own, but it needed soooo much. We made a heck of an effort, but it just wasn't enough.

He did at least get to see all the pictures of the kids working on it. So he knew he had done a good thing by giving it to us.

I know there were more important things to him in this world than his tractor, but I also know it would have meant a lot to him to see it done and back in use.

I want to thank everybody here for donations, support. Especially JimInMass (cant' remember you exact user name!) for all the great parts.

We'll of course continue the project and get it done, and it's still an exciting project for the kids. But the mad scramble to get it done in time is over.

I feel a twinge of failure, but I do know we made a good effort.

I'll post the link of the gofundme page that describes the whole project - but don't take it as a solicitation for donations.

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
