Years ago, I had two peach trees in the back yard in Dallas. There is nothing in this world as good as a tree-ripened peach!!!
I used to throw the bad ones (wormy or bird-pecked) over the fence into the pasture. One day I noticed one of my horses "snuffling" through the grass on the other side of the fence from the peach trees.
Went over to see what was going on. Got over there just in time to see her get one of the peaches I had thrown over the fence. Took the whole thing in her mouth. I groaned, thinking 'vet bill' from the stone.
She had the happiest look on her face while she worked on that peach. To my surprise, in a minute or two, she spit the stone out!!
I was surprised that she did that and very relieved, but stopped throwing bad peaches over the fence.
