I think it depends a lot on the tractor structure. I started by riding along on Oliver 60 while cultivating, one foot on the hitch frame and one on the axle housing while leaning against the fender. Later on the bigger Massey Fergusons, they had nice flat fenders with that built in handle above the headlights, no problems there. Not sure how the old Fords would be. I used to run a late 60"s 4000 and that wasn"t very user friendly for a rider. I would never ride a youngster on a tractor without rear fenders. I don"t know how else a young person would learn to run something properly, by the time I started operating those tractors on my own I knew what I was doing only because of all the hours spent riding along. That being said, it"s a different era now.
