Parts and service nearby is a good point. We didn't see many Vermeer's around here at one time, but we got a local dealer 6 or 7 years ago & now we are seeing quite a few. We've used them (Vermeer)for over 10 years. I have neighbors with New Hollands (3) and John Deere (2). All are late model machines and do a good job. I can't speak for Gehl as no one I know has one. If rrlund speaks well of them, his word's good. How well a bale holds together and rolls out has everything to do with the operator and the condition of and type of hay. Seems like if we can keep the moisture level above 14 or 15 % they roll out good. When we finished this morning , things were getting pretty dry, I'll know which bales they are next winter - will cut the net and have a big pile of loose hay !! I have one neighbor that always starts too late and is baling nothing but brown grass and twigs. Kinda fun to watch him feed it !!
