John, Is the crack in a location where it can be welded? If so, I wouldn't rush to replace it. I had a 9N that was cracked along the left side of the block about mid-way top/bottom and front/back, also, it was cracked on the left rear corner mostly across the back about 1" below the head. I had known of the tractor for about 20 years before I bought it and I would guess the weld was 30 - 40 years old. It gave no problem at all. I rebuilt the engine last year and had no problems and it ran great afterwards. KRM : I am rebuilding a ford 9N and find that the engine block is cracked. I need a good block or a good used engine. The rest of the parts I have can be used to rebuild an engin if I had the block.
