: I have a 6 volt system still on my 1952 farmall A I have put a 9 volt battery in it.....what must I do to the charging system now so it will charge : : joel Joel, I once heard someone suggest that if your present electrical system isn't keeping your six volt battery charged FULL, then adding a nine volt won't help. I too was thinking of going the nine volt way until I heard this. So I totally went through my electrical system, ie, Had both the starter and generator rebuilt, new wiring which don't amount to a whole lot, and most importantly I put the right diameter (gage) cables on the battery. The only deviating I did from the original wiring diagram is I bought a long enough ground cable so it would reach to a mounting bolt of the starter. I also made sure all connections were touching steel. I haven't had a starting problem since. The six volt battery stays charged. One more thing I put on the ground cable at the battery end was one of those connections with a knob to break the connection to prevent drainage by leaking of the charge. I don't know if that makes sense the way I explained it but it works. Knobshine
