We had a John Deere 70, actually my father did , and it was a few years old. and it started to do the same thing, sometimes it would run for a couple of hours then shut down then run for only a few minutes and shut down, there was no rhyme or reason to it, but a person figured out that a baffle in the gas tank was lose, and it would vibrate over the outlet and block off just enough fuel so it would not go, You might be able to check for this using a magnet on a stick to the bottom of the tank, And I have also seen a 4020 that was working hard on a sileage chopper and just quit, If I remember correctly there is a reset button on the pipe that comes from the air intake to the manifold and there is an attachment that has a rubber button on the bottom of it, I think ( but I am not sure) that it has something to do with letting the air flow into the manifold. I have a 410 J. D. backhoe that has this atttachment on it , but I have never had to look at mine, but I will tonight and get back to you.
