Didja ever have one of those days where you're getting a lot accomplished, but nothing you'd planned to do? Well, that's been this week so far.
I figured I was looking to a relatively easy week. All I really needed to do was transfer feed from a clogged feeder into 2 working feeders, move 7 pigs into the next pen and repair a hog shed in anticipation of hitting the auction tomorrow morning for another batch of feeder pigs. Well, Monday, I got a check in the mail I'd been waiting on. So I went to town and deposited the check. While in town, I paid my internet and electric bills and had lunch. I also got an order for 5 butcher hogs to be delivered on Thursday. Then I decided since my brother had flattened the tire on the Ford 2600, and since we wanted to swap tires with it and the 9N, I might as well pull a tire from the 9N. Before I knew it, the sun was going down, the water troughs needed filling and I was tired but feeling accomplished.
Tuesday, I had an appointment in Jefferson City. My brother called me in the AM and said his daughter was going into labor (boy. 7lbs 11 oz.) So after I got back from Jeff, I went over to his house and pulled the tire off the 2600. Took both to the tire shop then went to get a haircut. Then the tire shop called and said the tire on the 2600 was ruined. So I spent the rest of the day running around trying to find a used 12.4-28 tire. If you have one you can spare, I'm still looking.
I usually take Wednesdays off to play music. But when I did the morning watering, I checked the feeders and they were close to empty. I really didn't want to spend all day shoveling from the clogged feeder, so I called the feed store and ordered a 1/2 ton for the afternoon. After loading the feeders, I went to put the truck away, but apparently, the only patch of thawed ground on the whole farm is right under my right rear tire. I walked up to get the Farmall and chain and figured I'd get out of my goin'-to-town clothes. Walked inside and the easy chair grabbed me.
Looks like I'll have to wait 'till next week to go to the auction. Hopefully, I can get the truck over and hitched up to the stock trailer tomorrow.
