So after my dealings with county commissioners we'll have to remind you of a few things I learned. 1- 35 is more than 28 if you only have 28 employees in a department you can't lay off 35, I don't care what the neighboring county did, but if they layed off 35 employees from their highway department I suspect they had at least 35 employees the day they announced the lay-offs. 2-.38 is less than .505 so if you "shut down" the county motor pool (to save money) and your motor pool operates without direct tax levy and your "savings plan" is to replace motor pool vehicles (at $.28/mile) by paying employees IRS reimbursement rates (at $.505) you will not save money and no you can't make it up in volume. 3- If 27 of the 30 county supervisors vote to do a project and all licenses and permits are filed just because YOU didn't want to do it and YOU were not able to use your political influence to stop it doesn't mean it's Illegal and if YOU continue to tell the newspapers I built an ILLEGAL structure on county property my lawyer may be in contact with you about slander and defamation. 4- I don't care what your personal feelings are about some of the state mandated programs, if the program YOU don't want to FUND costs the county $150,000 a year but discontinuing this program means the county will loose $500,000 in state shared revenue discontinuing this program will not save the county money. 5-If you use a portable electric heater to heat a room above the thermostat set point and that room is Air Conditioned the air conditioning will come on, it's not broken and I don't care if it is the middle of the winter if the actual zone temperature is above set point the air conditioning will run, what is broken is the accounts payable clerk who feels it needs to be 80 degrees in her office. If you wanted to provide that level of control to occupants of each office you needed to add anther $1,5000,000 to your $7,000,000 Courthouse annex project to insure the HVAC system has those capabilities, AND you better add another $75,000 to $100,000 to my annual utility budget. 6- just because they're a union member doesn't mean they not lying. 7- Just because a constituent think the law or building code is "Stupid" doesn't mean we don't have follow it. 7- There is no grandfather clause for ADA (Americans with Disability Act)compliance, don't be stating there is in the newspaper 'cause it will attract attention from lawyers that sue businesses who don't comply with ADA. 8- Not spending $25,000 to fix ADA access problems might cost the county $100,000 in legal settlements to disabled parties abd oh yes then you spend the $25,000 to fix the problem.
