Thanks for the replies! First of all, JohnT simplified generator troubleshooting and thanks for that (wish I had that for my Willys). Next, the Delco manual that I am reading refers to the different circuit configurations as type 1 or type 2. So I gather type1=what you call type"A" and type 2=what you call type "B" from some comparing. So that is what I am trying to figure out as the Delco manual states that the three brush generator can be found in type 1 or 2 configurations. From what I make out of the manual, it appears the third brush (start of the field) takes on the polarity of the main brush it is nearest to. That is: if the 3rd brush is placed next to the "ARM" brush in the generator, then it is positive and then the field needs to be grounded externally. And the other is true if the 3rd brush is placed nearest the "GROUND" brush then the field needs to be "juiced" externally. So with that I learned just recently, I am thinking that maybe I can try to ohm out the generator circuits to figure out the layout of what I have and go from there. Any thoughts?
