: My father was killed 2 years ago while trying to tow a dumptruck delivering gravel that got stuck behind the house. His IH 424 Diesel backflipped on him. I don't know where he had it hitched, but later on I found the drawbar in the barn, so I know it wasn't in use... the strange thing is that he was always so careful about backing up hills, never getting sideways, shutting off the PTO when dismounting, and so on. All it takes is one mistake. This is the bad part of familiarity. Knowing what you're doing makes you safer but that familiarity can also lead you to ignore some rules because you've done it without problems for a long time. Then when something does go wrong you haven't taken the precautions that would have prevented injury. It's like the rule about firearms that you never point the muzzle at anything you're not willing to destroy. You'll get away for a long time without injury if you ignore this rule but if you happen to be violating that rule the one time something goes wrong the results may be horrendous
