: You're not really paying for the paint. You might ought to check the deck on the mower before purchasing. After all this is what cuts your grass. The deck of a john deere is by far better than a Craftman. Also the frame is better made. Made to last. You can pay an extra $1000 and get 10 to 15 more years of life out of you lawn tractor. I am not really a john deere fan as far as lawn tractors are concerned, but do know that you are not just paying for paint. I recommend a Simplicity.

The JD has a 12.5 hp Kohler with oil filter and overhead valves. Has about 400 hours and not even burning oil. The Craftsman has a running oil burning Briggs. It is the rest of the mower which is completely shot.
