The past 40 years, every time I've lost power, which has been way too many times, it's because a neighbor's tree falls on the power lines. One time the power surge created cost me a garage door opener, a surge surpressor protecting a dishwasher, and the electronic controls to my gen-air range. After that storm, I put a surge surpressor on the electric meter.
I've spent tens of thousands of dollars having my trees removed or trimmed. None have fallen on power lines or will they.
I will never plant trees that are going to get big, near a power line, near a house, or building.
If I were in charge of the electric compaines, I would send people a bill for their trees bringing down power lines.
We can go to the moon, but we aren't smart enough to keeps trees away from power lines. Go figure. George
