: : I am fairly new to tractors, and I have never heard of a blue, black, red, plaid or polka dot book. The closest thing I have seen is a John Deere buyers guide. Don't get excited though, it only tells the collectability of certain models, what makes some tractors more rare, what options were available, numbers produced, serial numbers, but not price. I think that would be impossible and if there was one it would most likely be inaccurate to the point of being useless. The thing you are going to have to do is just do a lot of homework, talk to a lot of people, look at a lot of ads etc. The area that you live in or are willing to travel to makes a big difference. I live in British Columbia and thought tractors were expensive here, but I just got back from Kentucky and the prices there were more than twice for some models. Seems to be a lot of Ford 9Ns and 8Ns down there at a fair price, but I can do better here. I am sure there are places cheaper, but the questions is where. The bottom line is if you can't afford it don't buy it. If you think it's too expensive, walk away.
: I Have a similar book for IHC. Collectible status is rated but not prices. There is a blue book for equipment, put out yearly, that includes tractors but it is rather expensive way to satisfy your curiosity. In the end - How much do you want it?

Here's the listing you need - available through Amazon.com. True story - I bought the guide and kept it in my pickup. Driving down the road, I saw a beautiful '58 MF 65 for sale. The justifiably proud farmer wanted $4200 for it. The book said it was worth $2860. We settled in at $3000!
