I now have it installed, inspected and hooked up. Over a month ago I called a local electrician, to install a new service entrance on my 150 yr old house. Finally showed up gave me a list of materials I would need to get as far as the 200 amp panel. He said I could get them at Lowes or he would get them and add on 15% I went an got them. No show, and it's getting cold. I have done electrical work in the past, started with building my own house in 1969, but I'm 71 now and I can afford to pay someone. Well I put on the meter box and the breaker box and he showed up. Said it looked good and left. I waited a while then decided to go ahead. Put up the mast and wired to the CB panel then called him asked him to come look at it, no show so I kept going. I've been at it about a month now work a few hours a day at it, get my grandson to help.We put in a few new wires I knew it would need, no rush now, outside work is done. We put a jumper from the old to the new box changed all the 110 and some of the 220 that the jumper could handle. Called the electrician brought him up to date on what I had done he says great, keep going. It's about a month and a half since I called him. I've moved about all the wires that the jumper wire could handle and went to the diner for breakfast and the electrical inspector was there too. We talked a little about it and he asked if I had a jumper ground wire around the water meter nope. went right home and did it and called him, he came the next day did some paper work and informed the Power company it was OK to hook it up.
This house was originally wired in 1932, sixty amp with 4 fuses, didn't need anymore what have you got to plug in in 1932. In 1981 it was updated to 100 amp Pushmatic circuit breakers and the box was packed full of breakers and wire. The previous owner was born in this house, and lived here all his life. He wrote on the walls, everything he ever did to this house. Bathroom installed in 1933, tub taken out to fix a leak in 1961. His great grandfather planted oak trees around the house when he returned from the civil war. There are only 2 left now, about 4 ft in diameter.
As far as the wiring goes, it's almost done. I haven't done anything about the 2 number 10 cables going to the garage, because that would involve going into the crawl space thru the window and I don't think I could get back out. I'll just hook it up the way it was and when it's warmer next summer I'll probably run a number 6/4 UF out there.
