I've seen mature bucks on peoples lawns in basking ridge nj, that I've never seen here, ever, theyh had an article years ago, profiling these deer one the sidewalks and so on. Same area I found a box turtle or whatever that native land species is, crossing the road leading to the train station near Millington, I've never seen another since, this was in '93 or so, we don't have them here, the wildlife in NJ is impressive, I worked on a lot of site jobs down there, and it provided a view of how things are, different species and so on.
Outside of Denville at this huge quarry we used to draw fill from, there was a clear pond that was from draglining years back, and another much older. The newer one had a huge stockpile near it, I would climb to the top and look down into and through the water, the biggest bass I have ever seen, right next to it a snapping turtle the size of a manhole cover, it was said you could ask permission to fish, the older pond and that there was some mature fish in there. Ponds were small lakes, something I will never forget, Jersey is not what people think it is from the NJTPKE or GSP, by any means, just too many houses now, wildlife has to co-exist somehow.
