We started looking into an Alaskan trip a few years ago, plan to go mid-summer 2014. Mid is best chance of best weather, but no guarantees. Figure it"ll be only once, pay the extra bucks for mid-summer. Early/late the season is often rainy, thus priced accordingly.
We plan on a one-way cruise on the inside passage, fly the other way. Denali Park- big attraction, but read what you get- can be a quick bus tour, or other bus/train tours with stops, etc. One day in Denali is not enough. Same with other side trips, hunting, fishing, glaciers,etc.....lotsa options.
BIL thought it was an ok, so-so trip! All other friends would go back in a heartbeat. We milked cows for 30 years, averaged a day off per year. We"ve never had a bad vacation since!
