I was out plowing the garden with the WD tonight, had her warmed up good and put the plow on and made a few passes through the garden and it was pulling easy and all was going well, and suddenly as I was getting to the edge of the field the tractor seemed to hesitate in place for a brief instant and then move forward again. I thought this was odd, so I picked up the plow and drove the short distance to the shed and parked the tractor immediately.
I got off the tractor and pulled my ear muffs off (cold one today) and she seemed like she was running rough. As I would idle it down it would smooth out some but as soon as you'd crack the throttle a bit it'd sound like it was running rough/hard. Oil pressure was good, and was at proper level when started (I always check that and the antifreeze level).
So I shut the tractor off, and it didn't have any strange sounds when stopping, which seemed good. So I let it sit for awhile then came back later and gently rolled the engine over a few times with the hand crank. Nothing felt out of the ordinary. So I got on it and figured I would start her up. The starter seemed like it wouldn't engage. It sounded like it would just spin and rattle when you'd pull the starter, but the engine wouldn't turn over like it wasn't actually engaging.
So I am stumped. The only thing I could tell as I was looking at stuff is that I got into the battery compartment and the post that goes to the starter (the non-ground strap side) had a ton of corrosion built up on it. So I am going to clean that off, but I can't imagine that caused my two issues tonight, or that these two issues were even related. Help is greatly appreciated. I'm stumped and slightly panicked. :shock:
