: Since you didnt say what kind of gear lube you are currently using, i have no way of knowing if your current gear lube is GL-4. If it is not try getting your hands on some and put this in your tranny. GL-4 is a thick gear lube. GL-3 is thinner and i dont reccomend it. Also, you may be right about the noise being caused by the used gears. The whining noise is NORMAL for a used tranny..there probably no problems with it...and probably nothing will get worse. By the way, that other guy who replied to your question...well,please notice he did not answer your questions, but he did make a comment. I have a comment that is true: DEERE MAKES THE BEST,MOST RELIABLE,PRODUCTIVE,QUALITY EQUIPMENT THAT IS POSSIBLE TO BUILD. Good Luck! Michael, Thanks for your comments. The shop foreman at my local John Deere dealer recommended Hy-GARD transmission and hydraulic oil. I'm not sure how this relates to GL-3 and GL4 but it does seem to be lighter weight than most gear lubes. I used 80W90 in the final drives. If it doesn't get quieter, I may try that in the transmission. Their book showed that you could use that or 303 which I understand is their old hydraulic fluid. As for that other fellow, I usually ignore stupid people, especially those that don't have enough balls to give a name with their comments. Thanks again, RT
