I've got a 1976 wheelhorse tractor as well. I mine is a 16hp hydrostatic (automatic). Not sure what the problem is but to have a soleniod and a spark problem means that it probably is related to the ignition switch. Here is a couple of things you could try: 1) Make sure the connector on the back of the ignition switch is pushed on tight. Both the starter problem and the spark problem could result from a loose connector. 2) If 1) is ok, the try disconnecting the wire from the engine coil that runs to the ignition switch. Then run a wire direcly to the ignition side of the coil from the positive side of the battery (hot wiring). If you get spark, then the problem is most likely the ignition switch. BECAREFUL WITH THIS TEST BECAUSE THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT IT OFF (if it starts) IS TO DISCONNECT THE HOT WIRE OR SHUT OFF THE GAS. 3)The only other problem I've had with mine is the clutch and mower deck interlock switches. When I have trouble with these it only affects the starting circuit. Let me know how it turns out......I've got my own Wheelhorse problem.....broke a rod in my 1973 12hp model. I have a C-121 Automatic (1976??) with what looks like an electrical problem. I was mowing when it started spitting and finally died. Using the key will not turn it over. With the key on I can jump it across the solenoid terminals, the engine turns but there's no spark at the plug or points. Perhaps unrelated but the engine seemed to be running very hot. : I've been very impressed with answers to others questions on this list. I don't mind saying that I'd starve if I had to depend on my mechanical or electrical skills so please be gentle. Perhaps I can repay your help if anyone has computer related questions! Thanks in advance. I will gladly share the outcome with the list. : : Loren
