The Hagerdorn spreader is a good conventional spreader. The ones with the normal beaters will just spread like any other box spreader. They just have a push door to move the manure back. I sold them new at the last dealer I worked at.
The spreader we sold for chicken manure was the Mayer's "V" Max rear beater spreader. It needs to be the newer model that is a "V" max. They have a large rear opening and a third auger that stirs the top of the manure pile back toward the front. So the pile does not pack around the opening. The older Meyers rear spreaders only had the two augers and smaller rear door. They would plug with the manure you are talking about. The newer ones work great. They brought out the "V" max models about 10 years ago. You should be able to find a dealer around you that has one. We always kept a demo one. So you could try them out. I attached a link to some information on them.
IF you don't find one of the Meyers to your liking go with some other vertical beater spreader. They have a much better spread pattern than the side slingers or the standard style beaters in the type of manure you are wanting to spread. Kuhn/Knight makes one, Mills manufacturing at Earlville Iowa makes one called the "Dump Truck" that is seriously heavy duty.
I bought a Meyers 8 years ago. I have spread just about every type of manure you could have with it. From hard pen pack, sticky wet manure to liquid manure. It does a good job on them all.
