: The oil seal behind the Pitman arm flywheel is leaking badly. The pitman flywheel looks as if it is pressed on and on the other end of the shaft the chain drive sprocket is threaded onto the shaft. Do I need to take both off to get to this seal or can I just pull the Flywheel off, (after last night doesn't seem like it is an easy task). Owner's manual doesn't have any info on this and I'm waiting for the parts manual to show up. Any advice would be greatly appreciatted. : Thanks, : Dave It sounds like the sprocket should be unthreaded off the end of the shaft. If memory serves the shaft is on tapered roller bearings. The shaft would be driven forward with piece of wood. I can remember how the preload is adjusted on the bearing. I don't think they used a collapsible sleeve. There may be shims between the bearings.
