: Good News and Bad News, I just bought the cutest John Deere 40S and after rebuilding the carb it runs great but..... Last night it quit and when you switch the lights on, the tractor quits. The battery was in with negative to ground so I am checking the voltage regulator and key/light switch. What I need is where the wires to the voltage regulator go. They are marked Bat, F and it looks like a L. There is also a wire to the back of the regulator. I will get the IT manual as soon as I can but would like to get this machine back together before that. Thanks guys . Dan Hi Dan. The guys have said pretty much all. The only thing I can add is that the "L" is probably for the charge (Ignition) light. I have seen it called that on more than one regulator. That would mean the wire from the back you mentioned wuld be the other generator wire. "A" usually. It should be thicker than the rest and got straight to the gen. Cheers. Glenn
