Edd, that's kinda funny. A friend of mine was a town kid with dreams of farming. He started with nothing and has become very successful. He has also spent a lot of money on shop manuals and isn't afraid to ask for help. Got 2 brothers running a 400 cow dairy near me. These 2 guys could tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet. And neither one can fix anything. One is a really good herdsman and the other is a really good manager. In the last couple of years they have started paying to have the equipment repaired as needed. As far as my BIL goes, one of his sons is farming with him and the boy is insisting that they repair stuff right.
Massey, just because someone is complaining about guys that don't fix stuff right isn't a reason to get bent out of shape. There are a lot of repair shops around here that most of their work is botched "farmer" repairs. It's no where near as bad as it was years ago when guys who grew up farming with horses now had to fix stuff with engines. And it seems the bigger the operator is the better the equipment is. Course a lot of the big guys don't keep equipment but a couple of years. I complain about it because with restarting the family farm on a budget a lot of the stuff I can afford has been farmerized.
