: I was about 14 (part of the problem) when I got stuck. I was disking with a cab equipped IH 966. The window was dirty and I was driving into the evening sun. It was hard to see and it was my first pass down the field. I got the tractor so stuck that the underside of the tractor was resting on the ground. : My uncle wanted to beat me to death (he didn't). We broke chain after chain. We pulled it out with 2 JD 4430s. I used to work for a guy with a 4wd Same Tiger. Burying this thing in the mud was pretty common. On a few occasions you didn't need to use the steps to get into the cab, as the belly of the tractor and both axles had settled into the muck. We had a routine for getting it out: The local garage had a vintage Dodge Power Wagon with a heavy duty gear winch. He would cable to the Same, and spin down the Power Wagon until the frame rested on the ground. We then would chain up an Allis 170 and a D-19 to the back of the Power Wagon and spin them down to the axles. This would usually anchor the Power Wagon enough to pull the Same out, which was then used to extricate the rest of the mess. When the Same was *really* stuck, the winch would pop the truck and both Allis tractors out of their holes without budging the Same.
