Ever have one of those days when you just want to throw in the towel. It started off great but then went south real quick. I think I found the problem with my Cat losing power, so went to use my floating pump I just had fixed for $158. Started it on land so it would be easier to restart in the water. Hooked the hose in the inlet, put it in the water and started it. It started filling the 6" hose right away but I had to straighten the hose so the pump would go back a couple feet in the pond. Well then the hose came off the pump. No problem, this has happened before and the pump just pushes itself to the other side. NOT this time. It pushed itself back about 5' and proceeded to turn itself upside down in the middle of a 10' deep pond. Oh @#&%#@!
I knew I had to get it out ASAP so I grabbed a long branch and made waves to move it to the edge. It didn't appear to get water in the gas tank and the oil didn't look too bad but the carb and muffler took on water. Put it in the skid steer and took it back where I had tools. Drained the float bowl and pulled the spark plug out. Then I pulled it several times blowing a bunch of water out. Checked for spark and I had spark so I put the plug back in. After about 5 pulls it started and ran slow for about 10 seconds and quit. I pulled it again and it started and kept running. It wasn't revving very fast but was blowing some steam out the exhaust. After about a minute it started to sound normal so I shut it and checked the oil. The oil was milky now so I drained it and put in new oil. It started up again right away. I checked the oil and it was a little milky but not much so I took it back to use it. I tied a rope on the handle so I could hold it in case the hose came off again. The hose stayed on and I ran it for about 45 minutes. I figured getting it nice and hot would dry up any leftover water. It ran great so hopefully no damage was done. I checked the oil and it was nice and clean with no moisture. It appears things worked out OK in the end but when the pump was upside down in the middle of the pond, I sure thought about taking up a career drinking!
