I took Wed/Thurs off from work to help Dad get some oats & peas in the ground. Even though there were a few issues (one of the duals going flat, other tractor loosing it's steering, etc...) we managed to get the field done I had set out to do.
Since we seed it down with alfalfa to be a hay field, I want it smooth (I'm the one stacking on the wagon...) so it got worked 2x diagonally, then once more up & down for a total of 3 times. Didn't get started with the drill until almost 4:30 because we were waiting for our neighbor to deliver the alfalfa. I finished planting in the dark, but we got the whole 15 acre field done, minus 2 wet spots.
This morning it started to drizzle out, and it continued almost all day. I went back to work to finish out my week, and its probably the best feeling sun burn I've had in a while. Still have around 50 acres to go. Still not sure what we're putting in where, as we picked up another 40 acres to rent this year. Thinking possibly some soy, but we need atleast 25-30 acres of silage corn.
After 1st crop we'll probably plow under another 5-10 acres of poor hay and turn that into corn. We still gotta do some more planning, but for now, I'm taking tomorrow off. Maybe get back at it on Sunday.
